SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT:
On a recent School Improvement Day, I had the opportunity to observe Literacy Coach Karczewski and Math Coach Marcinek leading their teams in reviewing assessment data. It was enlightening to see them collectively analyze the data and listen to teams develop and share their understanding of student learning trends. The teams discussed various strategies to improve student achievement and how they plan to continue collaborating to enhance student progress.

TEACHERS’ VOICE:
When speaking with a teacher at Crete Elementary following a professional development session led by Mrs. Karcewski, she said, “Being a resource teacher, it was great working on data and how to interpret with grade teams. I thought it was beneficial to learn differently to support students.”

SOMETHING TO KNOW
Growing up, I didn’t like to read for the sake of reading. It wasn’t until I became an adult reader that I understood how wonderful it is to be immersed in a book. For me, this is one of the reasons why it’s so important to instill the love of reading at an early age.

WHAT MAKES A “GOOD DAY” AT SCHOOL?
A “good day” as a literacy coach at school involves supporting teachers by implementing effective strategies and observing positive student progress. These elements contribute to a fulfilling day that fosters a love for literacy and empowers educators and students to succeed.

IN WHICH TEACHER’S CLASS WOULD YOU LIKE TO SPEND THE DAY?
Luckily, as a literacy coach, I have the opportunity to work in many classrooms. With so many great teachers in our building, picking just one is difficult. However, if I had to pick one, I would go with our second grade teacher, Mrs. Sullivan. I’ve had the privilege of working with her over the years and enjoy watching her create a literacy-rich environment. She sets high expectations for all her students and provides them with unique daily experiences
