Christmas in Southland Treats CM 201-U Students

CM 201-U Board of Education President, Maurice Brown, attended the 2nd annual Christmas in Southland on Sunday, December 17 at the Matteson Community Center. This event was sponsored by Philanthropist Larry Huggins and hosted by the Village of Matteson, Mayor Sheila Chalmers-Currin, and Board of Trustees along with Rich Township Supervisor, Calvin Jordan, and Board of Trustees.

Local communities who were selected to join in the event were University Park, Country Club Hills, Flossmoor, Harvey, Lynwood, Markham, Matteson, Park Forest, Rich Township and Richton Park. Each community was allowed to select 10 families to receive essential gifts this holiday season. This would not have been possible without Rich Township Supervisor, Calvin Jordan, and the Village of University Park. Many families were pleased to have help from their local communities and charitable giving can mean the most during the holiday season.

Special thanks to CMHS Petty Officer Reed for enlisting the NJROTC students to help wrap gifts and assist with the event. The best part of the event was seeing happy and smiling faces from the children and their excitement. Monee Elementary student, Anna, age 7, received an RTV and won a bike from the raffles. CMMS student, Brooklyn, age 13, won a laptop! They were both excited!

Overall, Christmas in Southland distributed presents to 700 suburban children making this holiday season a very magical one!
