Dear Class of 2020 & Warrior Families

April 15, 2020

Dear Class of 2020 & Warrior Families,

Poet Maya Angelou said, “You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be
necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come
out of it.”

While COVID-19 has resulted in the closure of schools throughout the state and around the country, no group of
students has been more impacted by this crisis than you, our high school seniors. I understand that right now you
may be feeling a tremendous sense of loss, frustration, and uncertainty at what should be the most exciting time
of your life. However, I believe that you are a class that possesses the inner strength and courage to face adversity,
make the necessary adjustments, and move forward. None of us could have imagined that the last months of your
high school experience would take such a dramatic turn. I want you to know that for the past several weeks District
administration was in talks with high school administrators about how this health crisis could potentially impact
both senior prom and graduation. We were all hoping for a different outcome.

In an effort to honor social distancing guidelines, we had to make the difficult decision to cancel this year’s prom
and graduation ceremony to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and families, which continues to be our
highest priority. Equally troubling was the fact that we could not simply postpone the events without knowing
when, or if, the government’s restrictions will be lifted this school year.

VIRTUAL PROM SURVEY: On a brighter note, we are happy to report that we have received an outpouring of
concern from our senior class and families this week who support the idea of providing an alternative way for our
senior class to celebrate. Virtual events are taking place at many high schools around the country, and while they
cannot match the excitement of a traditional prom, we hope you’ll join in on this fun way to connect with your
friends and classmates! Please take a moment to share your ideas with us by clicking here to take the survey now.
Please note the survey will close on April 20th. Upon reaching a final decision, the CMHS administration/Virtual
Prom Committee will share plans with our senior class families.

VIRTUAL GRADUATION: District Office and CMHS administration are currently discussing plans to hold a virtual
graduation ceremony as well. Please stay tuned for a timeline and more information.

REFUNDS: The CM 201-U Board of Education and Administration recognize the financial strain this public health crisis is having on many of our families. With that in mind, the District will be providing refunds to CMHS seniors
for any school fees related to prom or graduation that have already been paid.

Thank you for your resilience, patience, and compliance during these unprecedented and challenging times.
Remember, we are Warriors and we will get through this together!

Sincerely,
Dr. Kara
