CMMS Teacher Receives Art Grant
Crete-Monee Middle School Art Teacher Linda Johnson Awarded the Healy | Bender Architects 2018 Art Grant
Crete-Monee Middle School Art Teacher Linda Johnson (3rd from right) smiles with members of the Crete-Monee school board at the March board meeting after being awarded the Healy | Bender Architects 2018 Art Grant. Mrs. Johnson’s plan to explore the art of glass making with her students impressed the judges and caught their attention. She says she plans to introduce the students to artists such as Chihuly, Storms, LaMorte and Fruin while helping them create projects from inception through completion using a process called glass fusing. “Art is important to education because it allows students to be individual, expressive and to speak without using words. It allows for the beauty of freedom. It is free expression of human mind and senses,” Mrs. Johnson wrote. The $250 grant award will be used to purchase the needed art equipment and supplies.
“Making award decisions is tough especially when the stories are so genuine,” said Healy | Bender & Associates, Inc. Principal Mr. David G. Patton. “However, we loved your story and want to thank you for sharing the importance of art in your district,” he added.
