Relay for Life
Just as it takes a village to raise a child, finding the cure for cancer requires the support of our local and global community. Crete-Monee School District 201-U was well represented as we joined neighboring communities at The Relay For Life of Peotone/Beecher/Crete-Monee event at Peotone Junior High School on Friday, July 22, 2016.
The Relay For Life is a community team event to fight cancer. It is the American Cancer Society’s signature fundraising event, helping provide patient services, cancer education and materials, and much-needed research and takes place in over 3,500 communities nationwide.
“This Relay season it was very important for me to bring this wonderful event to our school communities, too,” said former CM 201-U board member Mrs. Heidi Gonzalez, who currently serves as Community Manager (Relay for Life) at the American Cancer Society/Lakeshore Division. “Next year, I am certain that we can do so much more!” she said.
The local event, now in its 12th year, is seeking to get local school districts involved. From the CM 201-U Booster Club assisting with customized t-shirts and the CMHS Girls Softball team hosting a “pink out” game to a performance by the CMHS Color Guard and Monee Elementary School’s creation of a Relay Recess, the event was truly a team effort. Thanks to our students, staff and board members for joining the fight to raise awareness and funds for such an important cause!
