On Tuesday, May 10, 2016 the Crete-Monee High School administration recognized all students who rank in the top 10 percent of their high school class. In addition, the evening gave the scholars a chance to honor the teachers, coaches and supporters who have served as mentors for them over the years. “This banquet is not only a recognition of students who have achieved, it’s an opportunity for them to honor their parents and the mentors who have guided them to achieve their success,” said event coordinator and CMHS Theater Director, Mr. Gary Thorsky.

During the evening, the students presented framed letters of appreciation to their mentors, expressing how they have impacted their lives.

Students and Mentors

Kody Reichert and John Konecki
STUDENT: Kody Reichert
"It is a great honor to be included in this great group of students. It’s really exciting to be the one of the first students in the school’s history to receive this honor. I know everyone that is a part of this had to work very hard and I am truly ecstatic to be a part of it."

MENTOR: John Konecki, Head Football Coach
“It is a privilege and honor to be selected by Kody Reichert as his mentor. Kody is an awesome young man who has a tremendous work ethic and drive. He will be successful in whatever endeavor he chooses in life. I want to say thank you to Kody for all the time, energy, and devotion he gave to the entire school community throughout his tenure at Crete-Monee High School.”

Adrianna Vera and Kevin Kenealy
STUDENT: Adrianna Gnaster
"I chose Mr. Kenealy as my mentor because he is an easy teacher to connect to and is more than willing to help out with problems that go beyond the classroom."

MENTOR: Mr. Kevin Kenealy, English Teacher

She has taught me an endless amount of lessons along the way and was always there when I needed her. She is someone who deserves recognition for all of the amazing things she does."

MENTOR: Kelsey Gorter
“I consider it a privilege to be chosen as Karson’s mentor. She is a bright, beautiful young lady and I am honored to have made a difference in her life.”

Adriana Gnaster and Denise Graney STUDENT: Adrianna Vera

MENTOR: Mrs. Denise Graney, English Teacher
"Adrianna brought tears to my eyes when she selected me as a mentor. I am honored and humbled by her tribute. I am proud to be a small part of Adrianna’s journey to success, a success she earned through hard work, discipline, and determination. Her example encourages me to strive every day to be the best teacher I can be."

Matt Sontag and John Cullnan
STUDENT: Matt Sonntag
“I am very appreciative of all Mr. Cullnan has taught me.”

MENTOR: Mr. John Cullnan, Math Teacher
"The goal of all educators is to make a positive impact on the lives of their students, and I am truly honored that Matt chose me as his mentor."

Anne Ethridge and Jeff Noble
STUDENT: Anne Ethridge
"I chose Mr. Noble because of his dedication toward the students of this school. He genuinely cares about our education, and that's something I really admire."

MENTOR: Mr. Jeff Noble, Math Teacher
“It means a great deal to me that Anne Ethridge picked me as a mentor. I chose to become a teacher not just because I had a passion for math and the art of learning it, but because I wanted others to find that passion and pursue it as well. Therefore, when a student identifies us as the reason they are successful, it reinforces everything I am about and encourages me to persevere on a daily basis to continue to influence our students. Anne typifies the kind of student who has mastered learning; and discovered the freedom and power that comes with learning advanced topics and knowing you are capable of almost anything. I am so proud of all that she has accomplished, so for her to pick me out of all her teachers really humbles me and gives me great pride. I thank her for her acknowledgment and hope that she takes all that she has learned to the next level and I can't wait to see the great things she accomplishes with her future. “

Karson Barrett and Kelsey Gorter STUDENT: Ashley Bartlett
"The best teachers are those who show you where to look, but they don't tell you what to see."

MENTOR: Ms. Eileen Hunter
“I felt honored and humbled to be asked by Ashley Bartlett to be her mentor. When I taught her in 8th grade I knew that she would become an outstanding scholar, athlete, and young woman.”

“Mr. Gary has been such an inspiration.”

MENTOR: Mr. Gary Thorsky, Tech. Theater Director
“I was so proud when I was chosen by Zoe that tears of joy came down my face as I watched her grow up as an outstanding young lady and actress. The Academic banquet is recognition of the academic top ten students who achieved the top ten of their class. It is an opportunity to honor them, their parents, and a mentor who has guided them to help to achieve their success.”
