Mentoring and Induction Program
Crete-Monee School District 201-U provides a state-approved Mentoring & Induction Program for all teachers who are in the first and second years of the teaching profession. The overall goal of the program is to provide professional and social support to new teachers as they begin their professional careers. The program supports professional learning that is aligned with the Illinois Professional Teaching Standards and relevant content area standards.
The program provides a minimum of 120 hours of mentoring support over a two year period. The beginning teacher is assigned to a trained mentor who assists them in learning effective strategies in areas such as classroom management, instructional strategies, student work analysis, organization and time management. Trust and confidentiality among the participants is a key component of the program’s success in developing our newest educators. Upon completion of the two year program and four years of teaching, the teacher is eligible to move from the initial state-issued teaching certificate to an Illinois standard teaching certificate.
Teacher development and retention are important to our school district. A well-trained and stable faculty provides continuity within our instructional programs. This translates to improved student achievement at all levels of our school system.
