Monee Elementary School recognizes the needs of all students and is devoted to providing a learning environment that supports the intellectual, social, and emotional development of students. Critical and higher level thinking is encouraged through the daily practice of teacher-student conferencing. The school’s focus is Helping All To Succeed (HATS), with differentiation of instruction present. Academic interventions are in place and parent and community volunteers support student learning. Monee Elementary partners with Governor’s State University as a cooperating school for pre-service teachers. These individuals work with a teacher mentor as they pursue a degree in Elementary Education. Students and staff benefit from this program through additional hands-on assistance and the experience of current best practices in the field of education. The school also partners with First Midwest Bank as a way to introduce students to the education of finances and to teach them the benefits of saving money for their future.
The school’s commitment to student achievement and safe schools is supported by their Character Education Program. Character Education is taught in the classroom, library, and through student interaction with the school’s social worker on a continual basis. Each month there is emphasis on a given character trait; this program also contains a family component. Their success is celebrated monthly by spotlighting the students that reach their goals. Each school day begins with students reciting the school pledge that embraces the school’s expectations and reminds students that they, too, are in charge of their own success in school.
