Crete Elementary School is dedicated to providing its students with the knowledge and skills necessary for academic success. The combined strengths and knowledge of staff members enable the school to provide a wide variety of reading strategies to ensure that the individual needs of students are addressed. The Crete Elementary reading program is organized around the balanced literacy model and provides structure for staff to create a learning community which supports and encourages student success. The math program focuses on building a strong foundation in computation, problem solving, and critical thinking. Students are often engaged in instructional strategies where hands-on-science experiments, responding to reading, leveled independent reading, and small group discussion are incorporated. The school-wide Response to Intervention System supports all three tiers for reading and math through the use of myriad interventions. The interventionist team meets with each grade level team once a month to discuss individual student and small group progress. The consistent analysis focuses on ensuring that student learning is spiraling and rigorous.
Students have opportunities for enrichment, positive recognition, and special activities throughout the school year. They flourish in an environment where hard work and positive behavior is continuously recognized and rewarded. The staff has incorporated a variety of incentives within their classrooms which align with the school-wide management system. Crete Elementary strives toward the vision of maximizing the learning potential for all through collaboration of staff, students, and parents working together.
